Peshawar Zalmi's owner Javed Afridi recommended Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) consider former West Indian captain Darren Sammy for the national team's coaching staff for the upcoming ICC World Cup in India.

Sammy, who had played for Zalmi in Pakistan Super League (PSL), is now their head coach. Under his captaincy, Zalmi won their only PSL title back in 2017.

With ICC World Cup around the corner, Afridi thinks that Sammy should be a part of Pakistan team management.

"Highly recommended! PCB should consider Daren Sammy for their management team for the upcoming World Cup in India," he wrote on Twitter.

Under Sammy's captaincy, West Indies won two T20 World Cups. The last time they won T20's mega event was in India in 2016.

Pakistan has already qualified for the ICC World Cup in India. Their participation in the mega event will depend on the government's approval.

The newly appointed team director Mickey Arthur will lead the coaching staff during the mega event. Grant Bradburn (assistant coach), Andrew Puttick (batting coach) and Morne Morkel (bowling coach) will accompany Arthur during the tournament.

Arthur will be involved in designing, formulating and overseeing strategies behind the Pakistan men’s team.

During Arthur's last tenure from 2016 to 2019, Pakistan won the Champions Trophy in 2017. Also, Pakistan won record 11 consecutive T20I series.

Currently, Pakistan is playing ODI series against New Zealand which they already won 3-0 with two more games to go.

Mickey Arthur tells ultimate goal of Pakistan team

Arthur had said all eyes are on this year's ICC World Cup, scheduled in October-November this year in India.

As quoted by a local cricket website, Arthur said their ultimate goal is to win World Cup in India.

"The goal is to win the World Cup. The second one would be to go to Australia and win a Test series. I was lucky enough to experience that with South Africa, and there's nothing better. Those are two very achievable goals," he was quoted saying.
